ST. JAMES

This is what we do

St. James provides opportunities for people of all ages to grow in faith, enjoy intergenerational community, and serve their neighbors.   We foster connection and care in a fast-paced, ever-changing city.  We remind each other the values that endure in a world often focused on the short-term, and search together for a truth that is deeper than the news cycle.  We invite you pray, play, and make the world a better place with us.

At St. James, we believe our faith starts in church—then reaches out to shape our neighborhood, our city, and our world. Here are some of the programs and projects we support:

Music at St. James

Music is an important part of life at St. James.  Our adult and children’s choirs enrich our Sunday worship and Holy Day celebrations.  The Fred Goff Choral Scholars Program provides scholarships and choral experience for young artists.  Concerts and recitals are hosted here throughout the year.  For more information about music at St. James or joining our choir, contact Kevin Navarro at music@stjamessf.org

Faith in Action

St. James plays an active role in this national community organizing network that gives people of faith the tools that they need to fight for justice and work towards a more equitable society.

St. James Preschool

Founded in 1963, St. James Preschool has been a much-loved fixture of San Francisco’s Inner Richmond neighborhood for 55 years, providing nonsectarian quality education to children from ages 2 to 5. As a small nonprofit school with an exceptional child-to-teacher ratio, we are dedicated to a developmental child-centered philosophy that fosters personal growth and respects a child’s spirit.

St. Martin De Porres

Each second Sunday of the month a team from St. James helps prepare a nutritious meal for several hundred people at St. Martin de Porres. Martin’s, as it is affectionately known, is a free restaurant inspired by the Catholic Worker Movement operated 100 percent by volunteers since it opened in 1971.
