easterincourtyard

You are invited to a special celebration marking the end of summer and regathering of the St. James community for the fall program year. Join us for worship, an art project for kids, a festive coffee hour (with grilled cheese!), and registration for the children's Sunday school and Youth Group programs. We are offering a new Sunday Morning curriculum for school age children, with an enhanced art and music component, as well as providing child care for infants and toddlers. The Sunday school program will formally begin on September 10, during the Liturgy of the Word at the 10 a.m. service.

Please contact Tracey Thomas if you would like to volunteer to assist with the reception and/or can bring soup, salad, or sweets to share.

Next meeting: Sunday, Sept. 10, after 10 a.m. service

The issue of owner move-in evictions (OMI) has been a contentious topic of discussion at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors recently. During July, St. James Faith in Action submitted a letter to Supervisors Farrell, Tang and Peskin which led to legislation reform protecting landlords who do legal and just OMIs and protecting tenants from illegal, fraudulent OMIs.

Members of St. James Faith in Action attend each Board of Supervisors' meeting and monitor Board committee actions in an ongoing effort to remain abreast of issues such as OMIs that are relevant to the St. James community. You are welcome to join us in these and our other efforts. Please contact Rev. Ayanna Moore or Barbara Webb to express your interest.

book extrememeasures

Part memoir, part journalistic essay, Dr. Jessica Nutik Zitter draws on her medical experience in intensive care and palliative care to explore how we die - the ways in which the health care system intersects with the end of life, for better and for worse. We will read and discuss Nutik Zitter's book as a starting point for our own reflection on death and dying, and planning for end of life care.

5marksofmission

What does it mean to be a member of the Anglican Communion/Episcopal Church? You are invited to explore this question as we reflect on the Anglican Communion's "five marks of mission":

   1. To proclaim the good news of God's kingdom
   2. To teach, baptize, and nurture new believers
   3. To respond to human need by loving service
   4. To seek to transform unjust structures of society
   5. To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth
